Drawing - Dual Brush Pens
Description
In the town of Glentana, West of Scobey, MT, there still survives an impressive, two-story brick school in what used to be a thriving village, but is now a house or two. Even the grain elevators have disappeared. (Fortunately, I painted them before they were gone, in a work called "Glentana Sunrise.") This drawing used brush pens, and was the first time I "smeared" the color, as seen in the smudgy, darker areas around the cracks. This was quite by accident. While filling in the space between the bricks, I smeared a bit, and in an almost childish act of frustration I started smearing back and forth over the whole crack, creating an effect that not only worked, but that (when used throughout the bricked areas) actually improved the whole drawing.
